Abstract
A novel scheme utilizing ultra-short ultra-intense laser irradiation of a cone-shaped target with micro-wire array for positron generation has been proposed. By employing Three-dimensional Particle-In-Cell (PIC) and Monte Carlo simulation techniques, it was observed that the laser pulse excites strong surface plasma waves (SPW) near the micro-wire array. The longitudinal SPW field drives electron acceleration and bunching, forming a quasi-monoenergetic high-energy electron beam. This beam is then used to bombard a high-Z converter to generate positrons. Compared to a planar target, our scheme can produce higher positron yield and energy.
