Abstract
The results of a series of experiments on powering aluminum multi-wire planar arrays with a current pulse with an amplitude of ~2 MA and a rise time of ~1.1 microseconds are presented. In the experiments, the number and diameter of wires (the linear mass of the array) varied with the height and width of the array plane unchanged. To record the parameters of the generated X-ray pulses, vacuum XRDs and bolometers filtered with various materials were used. In experiments with aluminum wires, powerful X-ray pulses with quantum energies above 1 keV were recorded (the maximum energy measured by a bolometer behind a Dacron filter was 2 kJ/cm), which indicates the presence of aluminum Кα-line in the resulting radiation spectrum. The results of numerical simulation of an illustrative experiment with a planar array with a width of 135 mm, consisting of 28 Al wires with a diameter of 26.8 microns and a length of 25 mm are presented. The calculations were performed using the three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic code FLUX-3D in a multigroup (spectral) diffusion approximation of radiation transfer and taking into account prolonged plasma formation from array wires.
